Design portfolio checklist 

• Portfolio should be maximum 10 to 12 pages (pages beyond the 12 page limit will not be taken into account and your application could be delayed). 
• Submit in PDF format and maximum 50mb. We do not accept links to online portfolios or shared drives.
• Use part of the portfolio to present one assessed design project from your final year of undergraduate study (where applicable). We recommend including a substantive design project that you feel best showcases your range of skills. There is no standard required page count for this but we suggest three to four pages as a guideline for this project.
• Include at least one project from your time in practice (where applicable). This can include technical drawings, images, extracts from reports, or evidence of you having taken part in other activities such as public consultations. There is no standard required page count for this but we suggest between two to three pages as a guideline for this section.  

• We do not need to see every design project from your undergraduate studies or from your time in practice; however, the portfolio is an opportunity to show your breadth and range of skills and experience, and it is expected that you will include other academic design projects and practice work beyond the project stipulations above. There is no standard required page count for this but we suggest between two to three pages as a guideline.  

• Please feel free to include content that you feel showcases your wider interests in relation to architecture and your appropriateness for MArch study at 51²è¹Ý¶ù. This could include extra-curricular activities such as competitions, initiatives undertaken in practice, student societies, workshops, or field trips. As a guideline we suggest one or two pages.   

• The Sheffield MArch is made up of a variety of modules (including written and/or research-led modules) and, where appropriate, you can include extracts from other academic work such as an undergraduate dissertation that you feel is relevant. As a guideline we suggest limiting this to one or two pages.  

AI Guidance  

We appreciate that AI can be used in the generation of architectural imagery and may form part of the undergraduate work or practice work that you wish to include in your application’s portfolio. To align with our institutional expectations about academic integrity and the transparent use of AI, please clearly identify all images that have been produced, enhanced, or otherwise adapted using AI, adding a short explanatory note confirming which AI software was used and how it was used. Please also clearly identify and reference any use of AI in relation to its use for text-based content or other non-graphic information in your portfolio (such as data sets); again, please add a short explanatory note. 

Personal statement

Your personal statement should be 500 to 600 words, reflecting on your previous architectural experiences. We would also like to know why you have applied to study at the School of Architecture and Landscape.

It is always of value to know what your architectural approach is and what areas of the subject you are really interested in.

After you apply

When you've submitted your application, you'll receive an email confirmation containing your application number.

If you are successful, you will be invited for an interview (in person or online).
