News Chemical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering achieve top-five places in Guardian rankings 2027 Outstanding results highlight the School’s strength across its subject areas 21 September 2026 Three academics from the Faculty of Engineering have been elected as Royal Academy of Engineering Fellows Congratulations to Professor Meihong Wang and Professor Ian Reaney from the School who join the Royal Academy of Engineering as Fellows. 24 September 2026 Dr Karl Travis joins the Independent Advisory Committee for the Deep Borehole Demonstration Center (DBDC) The Deep Borehole Demonstration Center has added three experts to its Independent Advisory Committee. Dr Karl Travis joins Emeritus Professor Neil Chapman, who is Chair of the committee. 18 September 2026 Mockup of Xerode’s dry electrode printing system, capable of continuous roll-to-roll manufacture. Spinout spotlight: Xerode Xerode, a spinout from the University of Sheffield’s School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, is developing a solvent-free, dry digital printing process for coating battery electrodes. 16 September 2026 Search CBE Research Highlight: Low-carbon cement and prototype bioreactor technology Cements that can reduce associated CO2 emissions by 80% compared to traditional cement and a project to develop a prototype bioreactor technology both feature in the first round-up of the CBE Research Highlight series. 30 June 2023 Two academic staff members recognised for their contributions to knowledge by the IoM3 Congratulations to Professor Iain Todd and Dr Lewis Owen who have both been awarded Gold and Silver medals respectively by the IoM3 for their contributions to knowledge. 13 June 2023 University of Sheffield duo win prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Prizes Congratulations to Professor Serena Cussen and Professor Claire Corkhill who have both been awarded Royal Society of Chemistry 2023 Research & Innovation Prizes. 13 June 2023 Top prizes go to two of our students who have won first and second place in the Reckitt Sustainability Challenge Two of our students took part in a new competition launched by consumer goods company, Reckitt.
