- Profile
-
I am a Palliative Medicine physician working at St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield, having 12 years of consultant experience. During specialist training, I completed a PhD in Health Sciences at Hull and York Medical School, which was awarded in 2012.
I moved to Sheffield in 2017 as a Senior Clinical Lecturer, to develop my own research interests and to lead the research strategy at St Luke’s Hospice. I divide my work between St Luke’s and the University of Sheffield, with additional support to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals when needed.
We have now built an academic team at St Luke’s, and are supporting our clinical workforce to develop their research and educational interests through the Wilkes Institute.
- Research interests
-
My research interests relate to palliative and end-of-life care, and include use of routine data, supporting social care delivery and interventional studies in the palliative care context.
I have collaborated with researchers nationally to support St Luke’s involvement with grant funded research, including the current NIHR-funded DAMPEN (£2.5m) project and the recently completed SUPPORTED (£740k) project, and continue to support the Yorkshire Cancer Research funded RESOLVE study (£1.3m).
In addition to developing my own ambitions, I am Head of Research at the St Luke’s Wilkes Institute; I have worked with St Luke’s on developing their existing research portfolio, including recruiting to the multi-centre CHELSEA II trial, EnComPaSS and project ECHO. I have also supported post-graduate students at St Luke’s and SCHARR to complete their research and bring their work to publication.
In collaboration with colleagues at ScHARR, I am supervising an NIHR doctoral fellow to undertake her PhD exploring the role of rehabilitative palliative care, and have previously undertaken research into emergency department use in palliative care patients.
