Profile

Elizabeth Corker, PhD, DClinPsych, CPsychol, AFHEA is a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and is based within the Clinical and Applied Psychology Unit. 

Dr Corker’s research interests include individual and group human behaviour and how changing behaviour can impact health, wellbeing and global issues such as, discrimination and inequality. She has published >25 journal articles and is on the Editorial Board for the Annals of Behavioral Medicine. She has experience with designing and delivering teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as for professionals.

She completed her PhD in Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience in 2015. Her thesis explored the experience of self-stigma and its impact on self-esteem and empowerment in people experiencing mental distress and in people with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. She completed her PhD part-time, whilst working full-time as part of a team evaluating the Time to Change programme, which aimed to end discriminatory behaviour towards people experiencing mental distress.

Dr Corker is also a Chartered Clinical Psychologist after completing a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2019 at the University of East London.

Research interests

Dr Corker has two broad areas of research interest. The first is the occurrence and impact of stigma and discrimination across different social groups, and the second is behaviour change.
